Jiaqing six-character mark and of the period (1796-1820)
The jar enamelled and gilt around the central band with four scrolling lotuses containing shou characters, the upper and lower sections with Buddhist and Daoist emblems, all on a turquoise ground in the style of cloisonné enamel below a band of ruyi heads at the rim and stiff leaves at the foot, the individual motifs outlined in gold in imitation of the gilded cloisons of cloisonné enamel ware, the iron-red enamel mark on a white square reserved on turquoise base

A Jiaqing turquoise-ground flask decorated with scrolling flowers, bats, butterflies and shou character, which also has gold outlines in imitation of cloisonné enamel is in the Palace Museum, Beijing, illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum, vol. 39, Porcelains with Cloisonné Enamel Decoration and Famille Rose Decoration, Hong Kong, 1999, no. 174. Like the present jar, the Palace Museum flask has an iron red mark on a reserved white square.
