A COMPOSITE EARLY TRANSITIONAL SMALL-SWORD

With slender tapering fullered double-edged blade, possibly German, iron double-shell-guard chiselled in low relief with foliage and two portrait masks in the 'Mortuary' manner, guard of faceted bars incised with foliage, later brass-wire-bound grip with Turk's heads, and globular pommel incised en suite; together with A DECORATIVE LOBSTER-TAIL POT HELMET, late 19th / early 20th century, the skull formed of six overlapping plates
The sword with 33 in. (84cm.) blade, the helmet approx. 12 in. (30cm.) high inc. tail
The blade is marked with runic symbols on each side within the fuller
