Of impressive size, the fantastic animal resembling a highly stylized feline with massive, curling fangs bared, upturned snout decorated with braidwork, circular pierced nostrils and sunken eyes; in white stone.

Ceremonial mace heads have been found from Guanacaste to the Atlantic Watershed. Once considered as weapons, most mace heads are too diminutive or fragile to have been utilized as such. All were made to be mounted on wooden staffs, possibly serving as clan badges.
