A DERBY BISCUIT FLOWER-ENCRUSTED VASE,
circa 1785, incised /2 and repairer's * on the underside for Isaac Farnesworth and a triangle inside the mouth for Joseph Hill,
applied with garlands, the lower portion with stiff leaf tips, the foot with a berried wreath and raised on a further square base
6in. (15.2cm.) high

Lot Essay

See John Twitchett, Derby Porcelain, 1980, fig. 146, pp. 134, 233, 245 for a similar pair of vases, also with repairer's mark for Isaac Farnesworth, the garlands suspended from fixed rings rather than bows. Farnsworth worked at the factory from the mid-1750's until his death in 1821, from 1780 as the foreman of the ornamental department.
