ATTRIBUTED TO WILLEM WEGEWART SR. CIRCA 1597
The frieze cast with inscription LIEFDE VERWINDT AL DINCK 1597 above a foliate frieze and a frieze depicting putti with water jars, animals and cornucopiea, stylised dolphin handles.
10.5 cm. high x 12 cm. diam.

Lot Essay

This mortar is illustrated in Wittop Koning, and attributed by him to Willem Wegewart Sr. on the basis of comparable frieze motifs found on signed clock bells by Wegewart.
