Bombé oval and on spreading slightly domed foot, with shaped rim and with two drop ring handles, one a later brass replacement, the body later applied with strapwork on a matted ground and later engraved with foliage scrolls, surrounding portrait busts, later engraved on one side with an inscription, marked underneath, further later numbered and engraved with a scratchweight 'No 392 oz123 10'
17 1/4 in. (43.8 cm.) wide.
124 oz. 2 dwt. (3,859 gr.) gross
The inscription reads 'Presented to Charles Stewart Vane by his Grandfather and God-Father Charles William Vane Marquis of Londonderry, K.G., G.C.B. on his Christening at Wynyard Park 5th January, 1853'

Reynier de Haan (1712-1783) is considered one of the Hague’s most renowned silversmiths and was the son of a goldsmith Johannes de Haan. He became a master goldsmith in 1731, the same year he married Maria de Wint. In 1756, Reynier’s daughter, Anna Maria de Haan, wed the silversmith Martinus van Stapele, son of Francois van Stapele, joining the two most prominent silversmith families based in the Hague.
