A FAMILLE VERTE 'ORCHID' CUP
KANGXI SIX-CHARACTER MARK WITHIN DOUBLE-CIRCLES AND OF THE PERIOD (1662-1722)
The cup is delicately potted with flaring sides, with the exterior painted and enamelled representing the seventh month with four large clusters of flowering cymbidium orchids sprouting from a rocky terrain. The reverse has an inscription which may be translated to 'The subtle perfume of orchids pervades the great hall; as music plays on the lofty terraces', followed by a seal mark reading Shang, 'Appreciation'.
