Jerry M. was born in 1903 and bred in Limerick, Ireland by Miss Kate Hartigan and is recorded as the outstanding horse of his age. He won 14 of his 20 races including the 1912 Grand National and the Grand Steeple-Chase, Auteuil in 1910. He was also second in the latter in 1909 and second in the former in 1910. Although he had not run for a whole season prior to the 1912 Grand National at Aintree he was equal favourite for the race with Rathnally at 4-1. His co-favourite fell and Jerry M. won the race convincingly by six lengths from Bloodstone. Although he was entered for the Grand National of the following year, Jerry M. never ran again.
