Lot Essay

The form of the present censer is very rare with only a small number of comparable examples published. Cf. a transparent yellow glass censer incised with similar Qianlong mark, from the Robert H. Clague Collection, included in the Phoenix Art Museum exhibition, Chinese Glass of the Qing Dynasty 1644-1911, 1987, illustrated in the Catalogue, no. 58; and a possible prototype for it, a Yongzheng-marked brown glass tripod vessel with slightly taller feet, illustrated in Treasures of Chinese Glass Work Shops, Florida, 1997, no. 30.
