A FINE AND RARE FAMILLE ROSE 'PEACH' VASE
DAOGUANG PERIOD, SHENDETANG IRON-RED HALLMARK (1821-1850)

The ovoid body is finely enamelled with a peach tree rising up from a sea of frothing waves behind blue rockwork growing moss and lingzhi fungus, and with two iron-red bats in flight among the grey branches bearing ripe peaches and clusters of turquoise and pale green leaves, the uppermost bough extending up the neck towards the flaring mouth rim

It is rare to find a vase from this period that is not decorated with minor bands around the mouth and foot, as is the case with the present vase. Compare with another Shendetang-marked vase with a pomegranate tree painted in a similar style to that on the present lot, but with the addition of lappet and ruyi borders, illustrated in Falangcai, Fencai, The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum, Commercial Press Hong Kong, 1999, pl. 189.
