QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY

The globular box elaborately carved in high relief with three bats in flight amidst leafy trees and two carp, each grasping a branch of fruiting peaches and lingzhi in its mouth, emerging from turbulent waves swirling beneath the box, the gnarled peach branch forming a chain-link between the box and the ovoid cover carved with two further bats to complete the wufu, the stone of an even milky-white tone with amber inclusion on the base
