Lot Essay

The distinctive, greenish-yellow nephrite, usually called 'yellow' jade, was extremely popular during the Qing dynasty, and particularly at the Qianlong court. For other examples with similarly wide mouths, see H. Moss, V. Graham and K.B. Tsang, A Treasury of Chinese Snuff Bottles: The Mary and George Bloch Collection, vol. I, Jade, Hong Kong, 1995, pp. 186-7, no. 75 and pp. 198-9, no. 80.

A white jade snuff bottle, also attributed to the Palace Workshops, and with similar prunus blossom decoration is illustrated, ibid., pp. 264-5, no. 108.
