KANGXI SIX-CHARACTER MARK WITHIN DOUBLE-CIRCLES AND OF THE PERIOD (1662-1722)
The cup is delicately potted with flaring sides, with the exterior painted and enamelled representing the third month with flowering peach blossoms. The reverse has an inscription which may be translated to 'After the fragrance of the evening rain; the rising sun enhances the beauty of the flowers in the mists', followed by a seal mark reading Shang, 'Appreciation'.
2 7/16 in. (6.5 cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

It is interesting to note that inscription refers to the attributes of the hibiscus flower which would normally indicate a flower of the tenth month.
