CAST FROM A MODEL BY FRANÇOIS JOUFFROY, LATE 19TH CENTURY

Ferdinand Barbedienne's 1886 catalogue notes the present group, was available in four reductions - 81, 64, 55 and 40 cm. Measuring exactly 81 cm. and preserving a number of variously-sized pins at construction joints, one may speculate that the present lot is likely an original modèle or epreuve, possibly that of Barbedienne.
