A French gilt-metal square table timepiece
N. Plantart, Abbe. Dated 1598
The dial with narrow Roman chapter ring with touchpieces and with the four winds engraved to the spandrels, the centre engraved with a coat of arms within garlands representing the order of Saint-Michel and the order of Saint-Esprit, the central engraved coat of arms representing the Richelieu family, later single blued steel hand, the movement with square gilt plates secured by four plain columns riveted to the back plate and pinned to the front plate, the going train with spring barrel and narrow gut fusee, restored verge escapement with steel balance with a plain gilt pinned cock, the case with fluted Corinthian columns engraved to the angles, the movement cover forming the base engraved with a coat of arms and beneath that the date 1598 within a floral wreath, the reverse signed N. PLANTART. .ABBE.; re-gilt
