The rectangular white marble top above a scrolling foliate frieze, centred to the front and back by a sunburst mask with ribbon-tied laurel branches, on tapering fluted legs inset with chandelles and headed by foliate paternae, stamped four times under the marble 'LEXCELLENT PARIS' and '438 MX' three times, with marque au feu to the underside 'LEXCELLENT 8, RUE BREGUET PARIS'

E.-Guillaume-Edmond Lexcellent (b. 1834) first opened a shop at 46, rue de Charenton in 1867, later relocating to 8, rue Breguet where he worked until 1928. He exhibited des meubles de luxe de divers styles at the 1855, 1867, and 1889 Expositions universelles where he was awarded a médaille de bronze as well as a médaille d'argent. Examples of the model have sold Christie's, New York, 18 April 2013, lot 21 and Christie's, London, 1 November 2001, lot 228.
