THE LACQUER POSSIBLY JAPANESE AND 17TH/18TH CENTURY, THE PORCELAIN AND CENTRAL DOG MOUNT 18TH CENTURY, ASSEMBLED IN THE 19TH CENTURY
Of rectangular form, the lacquer plateau decorated with mountainous landscapes, with a pair of birds flanking a central mount with a candle nozzle and a dog and issuing a central pierced pen holder, with three covered pots for ink, sand and a sponge, raised on pierced scroll-cast bases, within a foliate-cast border and resting on foliate and scroll-cast feet, the central dog mount probably previously with two further branches
8½ in. (22 cm.) high, 19¼ in. (49 cm.) wide, 15¼ in. (39 cm.) deep

By repute, elements of this encrier were in the collection of the Comte de Mercy-Argenteau, (née Choiseu Le Praslin) Ambassador of Empress Marie-Therèse at the Court of Louis XVI, Château d'Ochain and then the Comtesse de Martigny (née Pimodan).
