The Beurdeley dynasty of furniture makers was renowned for the fine quality of its works which skilfully intertwined references to furniture produced under the Ancien Régime. The present table has a distinct pierced looped stretcher with strongly recalls the work of celebrated 18th century ébéniste, Adam Weisweiler. The intertwined dolphins, which centred on the stretcher are also a reference to 18th century French decorative arts, with similar creatures found on works of art spanning the 18th century. A similar intertwined dolphin mount can be found on a table vide poche by Henry Dasson which sold from the Collections of Lily & Edmond J. Safra, Sotheby’s, New York, 4 November 2005, lot 323 ($33,600).
