The central frieze cast with stiff-leaf and acanthus is drawn directly from Jean-Henri Riesener's oeuvre of the 1780s and was often incorporated into similar designs by Winckelsen and later Dasson upon purchase of his worshop in 1871. Though apparently unmarked, the clean and precise blond oak construction, paired with exceptionally cast and chased mounts, were trademarks of Winckelsen's output during the mid-1860s. A console of similar construction and utilizing similar Riesener-type mounts was sold Christie's, New York, 21 October 2010, lot 376.
