Lot Essay

Based upon a design registered with the prolific Parisian bronzier Denière, this model was produced by François Linke in two varieties of marble: fleur de Pêcher and vert antique. A smaller deviant example, executed in the latter variety and identical to the stone in present lot, was sold at Sotheby's, London, 27 February 1998, lot 285, and is now attributable to Linke. A more faithful rendition of the model, executed in fleur de pêcher, having belonged to Linke's daughter, was sold at Sotheby's, New York, 19 April 2007, lot 81 ($39,000). A further example in vert anqitue marble sold Christie’s, New York 9 April 2008, lot 65 ($29,800).
