MAKER'S MARK INDISTINCT, DUBLIN, CIRCA 1750
On circular pedestal foot, the body embossed with eagles, foliage and "C" scrolls on a matted ground, each side engraved with the later coat of arms for Rear Admiral Charles Davis Lucas VC (1834-1914), the cover embossed with shells amongst scrolling foliage, with pine cone finial and engraved with a crest to either side

Lot Essay

Rear Admiral Charles Davis Lucas, was the first ever recipient of the Victoria Cross. During the Crimean war, aged just 20, he saved his ship and fellow crew members by throwing overboard a live Russian shell that had landed on their deck.
