The Roman fashioned and temple-pedimented bookcase has mosaic-compartmented glazing and hollow-cornered tablets on its 'commode' doors as illustrated in a pattern of 1760 for 'Library Bookcase' ornament. The pattern (plate 65) was issued by London cabinet-makers including T. Chippendale, W. Ince and J. Mayhew, in a book titled, Houshold Furniture in genteel Taste for the Year 1760, by a Society of Upholsterers, Cabinet-Makers etc.
