The chamfered underside of the drawer rail, the scratch mouldings on the drawer front, the convex quarter fillets inside the drawer and the elegant, simple handle on this table are all distinctive features often associated with the work of Thomas Chippendale (d. 1779). A pair of similar Pembroke tables, also bearing the distinctive chamfering under their drawer rails, were supplied by Thomas Chippendale to Ninan Home for Paxton House, Berwickshire circa 1775 (C. Gilbert, The Life and Work of Thomas Chippendale, London, 1978, vol. I, p. 274, fig. 457).
