George Finch was born in 1752 and suceeded his uncle to the titles in 1769. As a Lt. Col. in the 87th Foot he fought in the American War of Independence and was made a KG in 1805. A noted cricketer, Lord Winchelsea was a founder member of the MCC and sponsored their aquisition of Lord's Cricket Ground.
