The two drawings illustrated here are dated 1790 by the celebrated architect Henry Holland (1745 - 1806), and are very close to this chimneypiece, and its complementary pair, lot 82. The drawings form part of a volume of 101 leaves (1) containing details of interior decoration, chiefly chimneypieces and mouldings, now in the R.I.B.A. library. Henry Holland's understated and restrained Neo-classical style is reflected in their design with the tapering jambs, the geometrical cushion moulded jasper panels evoking a striking, yet subtle contrast with the white statuary marble.
