Including two D-end sections and three extra leaves, the rounded rectangular top with reeded edge above a cartouche-panelled frieze, on four removable turned and tapering reeded legs, brass caps and castors, the later castors stamped 'COPE'S PATENT', the mechanism with brass plaque 'Stewart INVENTOR AND Patentee 115 St. Martin's Lane Charing Cross LONDON', also stamped four times 'GR STEWART PATENT' with a crown, restorations to the top, with securing clips to the underside and five folding table pads for protection

Charles Stewart (d. 1827) had premises at 115 St. Martin's Lane until 1820, when he moved to Regent Street. In 1810, he was granted his patent for 'improvements in the construction of dining and other tables' and a similar dining-table is illustrated in C. Gilbert, Pictorial Dictionary of Marked London Furniture, 1700-1840, Leeds, 1996, p. 441, fig. 884.
