BY GILLOWS, THE CRAFTSMAN T.MYERS, CIRCA 1830

The inscription is most probably that of Thomas Myers senior (d.1839) whose signature appears on a davenport of circa 1830 which features the same pattern of gallery as the present lot and which is provenanced to Leighton Hall, the home of the Gillow family at that time. His son, Thomas junior was also employed by Gillows from 1834 until the 1840's. The table is made in Goncalo alves, known at the time as Albuera, and which Gillows considered in quality to be second only to rosewood (see Susan E.Stuart, Gillows of London and Lancaster 1730-1840, 2008, vol.II, pp.32-33, pl.568, and p.266).
