Lot Essay

Sir Walter Scott, 1st Bt. (d.1832) the prolific Scottish historical novelist and poet built Abbotsford in 1825. The house and Scott's collection of historic relics, weapons and armour, and a library of over 9,000 rare books, was opened to the public in 1833.
