The inscription reads: Presented to SIR JOHN KIRKLAND By His Sister-in-law FREDERICA EMMA HUNTER in affectionate remembrance of the Esteem and regard felt for him by her late beloved husband SIR RICHARD HUNTER and also as a token of her gratitude for his great kindess to herself 1849
