The Westchester Cup, also known as the Newport Cup or the International Polo Cup was first played in 1886 between the United States and Great Britain. The British team dominated the tournament until 1909 when Devereux Milburn and others formed a team know as the 'Big Four' who won the cup that year.

Among the engraved signatures is that of Pat Roark, a retired British Army officer who was considered by many the greatest of the world's great polo players. Roark tragically died after being knocked unconscious when his mount stumbled and rolled over on him at a match in California.
