A German fayence turkey-tureen and cover
Circa 1750
Naturally modelled and painted in petit feu colours with cream coloured plumage with brown tips and dark-brown markings, the tureen with yellow and black striped claws, short angular wings, the back of the raised flared tail with radiating feathers, the front of the tail forming part of the cover, its blue head with puce and brown spots and puce blue-spotted wattle (tureen with crack from rim, feet restored replacements, tail broken through and restored, cover with restoration to head and wattle, half of tail broken through and restored)

Lot Essay

The present lot is apparently unrecorded in the literature, but for an unmarked different but related model (attributed to Strasbourg) in the Campbell Museum, see the catalogue op. cit. (fifth edition, 1983), no. 65.
