A GERMAN GILT-BRASS STRIKING TOWER CLOCK
SA/HA, AUGSBURG, FIRST QUARTER 17TH CENTURY
The case with two-tier tower with multiple finials and housing two bells, the detachable side panels decorated with strapwork and foliage on a pounced ground and glazed in the centres, the base on turned brass bun feet, the dial with later Roman and Arabic chapter ring, later hands, alarm disc in the centre, later enamel calendar disc below, the rear of the case with further foliate engraving and two vacant dial recesses (previously for hour and quarter-strike dials), the movement with square gilt-brass pillars to each corner, gut fusée for the going train with pinned caps to the spring barrel, later anchor escapement, going barrels for the hour and quarter hours and alarm, the alarm cover stamped with a pineapple for Augsburg and flanked by the initials SA HA
