A gilt bronze figure of Queen Maya
Nepal, 19th century
Finely cast with Queen Maya standing over a double-lotus base with her legs crossed and her left arm raised, grasping the Bhodi tree, clad in a short dhoti secured with a belt, an incised sash, and a shawl draped over her shoulders and curling at her sides, further adorned with a crescent collar with foliate patterns and large round earrings all inset with hardstones, her face in a serene expression with almond-shaped eyes and her hair secured with a large crown, the Bhodi tree seperately cast in sections with individual leaves and with four monkeys clambering in its branches
