The bearded figure seated on a lotus base with hand in the gesture of elucidation, wearing a pleated garment cinched at his waist by a sash and pointed slippers, his face finely detailed with arched sloping brows over expressive eyes, aquiline nose and bow-shaped lips in a slight smile framed by pendulous earlobes and a cropped hairstyle, the base bearing inscription of his name at front and sealed underneath

Shangton Chobar (1053-1135?) was also known as Lord Gonbawa, one of the principal teachers of Sachen Kunga Nyingpo, the founder of the Sakya School of Tibetan Buddhism.
