A Gilt Copper Figure of Manjushri
Northeastern India or Nepal, circa 12th Century
Seated in maharajalilasana over a double lotus base flanked by blooming lotuses--one bearing the book attribute, wearing a jeweled belt, a 'sacred thread' across his chest, multi-stranded necklaces, armlets, anklets and beaded disk-shaped earrings, his face gently tipped to his right side with incised undulating brows over downcast eyes and aquiline nose with lips in a slight smile, topped by a foliate crown with inlaid amethyst and flaring sashes, with his hair piled in a high coiffure surmounted by an amethyst inlaid cintamani, base sealed and incised with floral visvavajra being a later Tibetan consecration
