Curtis Jeré is a collaboration between Curtis (Kurt) Freiler, a German immigrant and manufacturing guru, and Jerry Fels a New York based artist. Together they founded Artisan House in 1963, a brand that has become renowned for its collection of eclectic and decorative wall and floor sculptures. Prior to the establishment of Artisan House, Freiler and Fels built a costume jewellery business, selling under the names Renoir and Matisse. The C. Jeré signature that is used is a compound nom-de-plume of both their names. Many of their multi-dimensional sculptures are abstract in form and are handcrafted in copper, bronze, brass and aluminum, with the ‘Raindrops’ sculpture being one of their most famed designs.
