A GREEK SILVER PHIALE MESOMPHOLOS WITH A BYZANTINE INSCRIPTION

The shallow hammered bowl with a central boss, rounded shoulders and wide flaring rim, the exterior later engraved with three sections of scrolling vines separating two Greek inscriptions, "Saint Thekla" and, "Hope of God," the latter flanked by crosses
5½ in. (14 cm.) diameter; (2 5/8 in. (6.7 cm.) high
