The first green ground panel with central register composed of one line of kufic in gold very finely delineated with blue on copper ground, four further registers with geometric design and plain yellow band indicating the end of the fabric; the second with six registers and a repeat, the large central frieze includes several bands of decorative motifs and a red roundel with an image of a hare; the third linen fragment woven with two broad bands in silk each containing delicate animal friezes; the fourth embroidered in gold, probably part of a border for a shirt or part of a turban, all mounted, framed and glazed

The inscription on the first fragment reads: bismillah al-rahman al-rahim la ilah illa allah wa muhammad

"In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful. There is no god but God and Muhammad ..."

For a comparative inscription, see Ernst Kühnel, Islam Stoffe aus gyptischen Grbern, Berlin 1927, 3132, Tafel 7, a fragment attributed to Egypt, circa 1036 1095.

A similar tiraz fragment to the calligraphic fragment is in the Textile Museum, Washington DC, (TMW-73.544)
A textile fragment with a very similar lattice also containing animal friezes is in the Abegg Foundation Collection is attributed to Egypt and dated to the third quarter of the 12th Century, (Karel Otavsky, Muhammad 'Abbas and Muhammad Salim, mittelalterliche Textilien, vol I, No. 52, pp. 90-91).
