inset with heart-shaped Connemara marble, opening to reveal two compartments, one enclosing a dried flower spray, with plain suspension loop, together with a French silver and purple enamel photograph frame with a photograph of Queen Alexandra, circa 1900, retailed by Dreyfous of Mount Street; an enamel on copper portrait miniature of Queen Victoria, English school, after 1897, inscribed on the counter enamel 'Downey phot / 66407.', the frame with the mark of George Elisha Sumner, London, circa 1987; a George V parasol handle, the mount engraved with inscription 'To the Queen with humble duty from Evie, Xmas 1924', with partial cane, with the mark of Jonathan Howell, London, 1918; a plain amethyst cabochon

The inscription on the parasol handle refers to Evelyn Emily Mary Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire (1870-1960), wife of Victor Cavendish, 9th Duke of Devonshire. Evelyn held the position of Mistress of the Robes to Queen Mary from 1910 until 1916 when she accompanied her husband upon his appointment as Governor General of Canada. The Duchess held the position Viceregal Consort until the Duke's term ended in 1921. Upon returning to England, the Duchess was again appointed Mistress of the Robes to Queen Mary, holding the position until the latter's death in 1953.
