A HUANGHUALI TWO-PANEL SCREEN

The narrow panels consist of horizontal panels well carved in double-openwork with begonia-shaped medallions, each enclosing a stylized character, which together form fu, lu, and shou (good fortune, prosperity, and longevity) and is flanked by chilong writhing amidst scrolling clouds, and there is a large open central section (formerly enclosing paintings). The rectangular legs are joined by a shaped apron with beaded edge and carved with chilong and archaistic scroll.
