A JADEITE, ONYX AND DIAMOND CARNET DE BAL, BY CARTIER
Carnets de bal which mainly consist of blank leaves of paper and pencil were intended for ladies to note down the names of prospective dancing partners during a ball or a party. Many are highly decorative and were very charmingly lithographed or engraved, with illustrations of dancing couples, above the blank spaces which were left for the insertion of names of dancing partners.
