mark of Alexander Tillander, St. Petersburg, circa 1890
Rectangular of oval section, with continuous reeded design, the hinged cover applied with a Cyrillic monogram SM beneath the Imperial crown, with sapphire thumb-piece, hinged match compartment and tinder cord holder, in original leather case, the interior cover stamped in Russian 'K. Han Nevsk. Prosp. No.26 S. P. burg.'
3¾ in. (9.6 cm.) long
The monogram is that of Grand Duke Sergei Mikhailovich (1869-1918), grandson of Nicholas I.
