This design appears as the central design on a number of Kashan lustre star tiles bearing dates of the second half of the 13th century. One of a number of close examples is in the Metropolitan museum of Art, bearing a date of Ramadan 663/June 1265 (Carboni, Stefano and Masuya, Tomoko: Islamic Tiles, exhibition catalogue, New york, 1993, no.11, p.16). It is however very unusual to find it without any inscription border at all. The present tile is very similar to the centre of one of the large star tiles made for the Imamzada Yahya at Veramin, dated dhu'l hijja 660-Safar 661/October-December 1262 (Watson, Oliver: Persian Lustre Ware, London, 1985. col.pl.K), but painted on a smaller size tile and thus excluding the inscription border.
