The rectangular writing box decorated on the cover in iroe takamaki-e with a falcon on a stand rendered in high relief against a glossy roiro-nuri ground scattered with gold and red maple leaves, the underside of the lid lacquered with a boat-shaped flower basket with flower arrangement rendered in gold and red takamaki-e, mokume, applied pewter and mother-of-pearl against a background of Zeshin-style waves rendered in black lacquer applied with a fine-tooth bamboo comb, the waves continued in the well of the box, edges lacquered fundame; fitted with a rectangular marble inkstone and silver water dropper
