A Lacquered, Mother-of-Pearl, Shagreen and Tortoise Shell Cabinet
Joseon dynasty (19th century)
Rectangular, set on a rectangular plinth with curved legs and fitted with two hinged lower doors, the surface elaborately inlaid with writhing confronted dragons chasing the flaming pearl in mother-of-pearl outlined in twisted brass wire surrounded by precious emblems and auspicious Chinese characters in inlaid mother-of-pearl and tortoise shell outlined in wire against a ground of gold powdered lacquer, the top surface decorated with Buddhist trigrams in shagreen and wire and with clouds inlaid in mother-of-pearl, tortoise shell and further brass wire
