A LARGE CORAL-GROUND GILT-DECORATED CIRCULAR BOX AND COVER
IRON-RED SHENDETANG MARK WITHIN A DOUBLE SQUARE, DAOGUANG PERIOD (1821-1850)

The domed cover is painted in gilt with dense composite floral scrolls comprising peonies, chrysanthemum, day-lilies, camellias, daisies, lotus, morning glory, hibiscus and other exotic blooms, all borne on curling tendrils against a bright coral-red ground, the box with further scrolls and ruyi bands around the rims, raised on a foot encircled with a key-pattern band, the interior and base enamelled turquoise
