Lot Essay

Emile Louis Truffot (1843-1896) entered the Ecole des Beaux Arts at the age of nineteen and began exhibiting at Salon the following year. His work was almost entirely devoted to Oriental subjects, however, he occasionally ventured into the realm of animalier sculpture of which the present sculpture, first modelled in 1893, is a well known example.
