A large gilt and polychromed copper repousse plaque of Harihara
Nepal, dated NS 965 (1845 AD)
Modeled with the four-armed Harihara standing at center atop a double-lotus base flanked by Nandi and Garuda, his back arms raised with the trident in his right hand and the chakra in his left, his primary right hand holding the rosary and his left holding the conch shell, clad in a long dhoti and tiger skin adorned with beaded, foliate and snake jewelry, his face with a straight aquiline nose and third eye and his hair pulled into a topknot, all backed by a flaming aureola with an inscription at the bottom and remains of polychromy overall

Lot Essay

The inscription on the verso states that the family of Prajapati Thakura Dhanabadha donated this image of Harihara in honor of their tutelary deities Hari Sankha Narayana and Mahakali.
