The unusual zigzagging design around the rim of this bowl bears comparison with an example in the Louvre Museum, Paris (acc.no. OA 3925), though the finer drawing and wider colour palette - which includes a deep aubergine colour - suggests that ours is earlier in date. The bold design is closer to a larger example sold by Sotheby's, 23 October 2019, lot 283. Even more similar are the triffid-like flowers which adorn a lidded bowl in the Walters Art Museum, Baltimore (acc.no.48.1732) which also seem to grow from the rim and hang down under the weight of their voluminous petals. Another large Kütahya bowl was sold in these Rooms, 27 April 2023, lot 151.
