A LARGE MEZCALA STONE HEAD, TYPE M-16 VARIANT
Late Preclassic, ca. 300-100 B.C.
A rare category, of roughly trapezoidal form with singular waisted, bulbous forehead, the smooth, slightly triangular facial plane marked by a minimal wide open mouth, grooved ears and small, deeply drilled circular eyes; in yellow-green serpentine, pierced at the top and the back of the head.
